Mars tested for the team at the Batangas Circuit earlier this year and did enough to earn his seat in the Minardi Team Asia Dallara 398 TOM’S car. The team hope Mars will take away points from Sy’s main rivals in the Promotion Class, Hermoso, Muira and Pastor. Like Sy, Dado Pena who lies second in the Promotion Class, will also be driving for Minardi Team Asia in the Formula BMW Asia race held at the Goldenport Circuit in Beijing on August 15th.
Mars has won races in the China Formula Campus Series and competed in the extremely competitive French Formula Campus Championship. “It will be a big step up for him to Formula Three but he proved in his test at Batangas that he has a lot of potential and we have high hopes for a Promotion Class podium finish in Beijing” said Minardi’s Mark Goddard. “ Paul Stoddard, owner of the Minardi F1 Team, is particularly interested in the development of drivers from this region and he will be kept informed of the progress Mars makes”.
The Denso Iridium Power Beijing Race will be Hsieh’s local event and he hopes that the support of his Countrymen will spur him on to a great result.
