John O'Hara "did a Schumacher" at the start and pulled across a fast starting Christian Jones. O'Hara's right front wing made contact with Jone's left rear tyre resulting in a puncture. Jones was forced to pit and rejoined to finish 10th. O'Hara and Goddard battled for the lead for several laps before a mistake at turn 7 saw Goddard drop back. Back markers again caused problems and ensured an easy run to the flag for O'Hara.
Richard Joson now knows how Jarno Trulli felt in Magny Cours this year, losing third place on the road on the last lap to Enzo Pastor who made a brave lunge up the inside at the first hairpin. Joson was followed by Promotion Class winner, Don Pastor, and Pepon Marave. Mars Hsieh followed, second in the Promotion Class and first in the China Class, from Kenkou Muira, Carlos Anton, Christian Jones, Frank West, Machida and Alan Wong. Roland Hermoso failed to finish with a gearbox failure.
Most observers felt the incident at the start was a racing incident so there was some suprise that O'Hara was penalised. The appeal will be held by the FASC and this will probably take some time, the race results will remain provisional until the appeal has been heard.
