The 18-year old, who has recently been awarded the Commendation of Merit by the Macau Special Administrative Region has previously driven for Asia Racing Team in the AFRenault Series and will now drive a Dallara F302/304 Tom’s Toyota.
“This is a new level of challenge for me. I am expecting to be up against a tough competitor field and despite my relative inexperience in a Formula 3, I am optimistic of being able to progress at a reasonable pace”, affirms the 2003 AFRenault champion.
Avila, who has driven in various circuits in both Asia and Europe, admits not being familiar with two of the venues scheduled in the series and will rely on the teams’ expertise in delivering a competitive car.
“I have yet to see more of Batangas and Sentul and with the test restriction in place, I will be relying on the teams’ strong engineering reputation to set me up a competitive car. Having briefly worked with the team during previous test sessions, I have gained a positive impression of the level of teamwork we maintain”, says the driver sponsored by the Macau Government, Hotel Fortuna, Macau-Slot.Com, 4th East Asian Games 2005, CESL-Asia, Sands Macau, Tong Lei, BNU, CTM, ProFabril Asia Consult, Gain Well Group, San Chong Hong, and RP Macau e PT Asia.
“To have Rodolfo in our team, together with the 2004 AF3 Driver of the Year awardee, John O’Hara, we now have two of the toughest contenders for the team and driver championship titles. This is very good news for us”, remarked the teams’ chief engineer Nobuaki Adachi.
Avila aims to do one final test session prior to the official start of the series in April.
