Rodolfo Avila to race HBR Dallara Mercedes at Macau - Sep 30 05

Asian Formula 3 stalwart Rodolfo Avila confirmed his entry at the 52nd Macau Grand Prix - FIA Formula 3 Intercontinental Cup. The 18-year old Macau driver, backed up by Austrian team HBR Motorsport, will drive a Dallara F305.

Avila will be provided with what is currently reputed as the most powerful among F3 engine makes in the field. The Mercedes-Benz M271 Formula 3 powerplant is a development of the standard production engine of the C- and E-Class Mercedes-Benz line of top quality automobiles.

"My main target is to finish the race; it is the one thing that has been dodging me in the past in my favourite race. At the same time, I want to be the best among the local drivers. My brief international experience might play against me but nevertheless, I remain optimistic. I hope to be within the pace of the quicker European and Japanese drivers although I expect it will be extremely difficult, as surely they have more experience having competed in top championships around the world” says a focused Avila.

The Asian F3 frontrunner will be among the small group of Mercedes-powered drivers and is fully aware of the enormous challenge. "It will be a great opportunity to race in Macau with such a competitive car. To have a good engine at Macau is very important but there is more to focus on. Although HBR Motorsport will only be making its Macau GP debut, I expect the expertise and professionalism of the team to work along getting a good car setup done”, relates Avila.

Supporting Avila in his 2nd attempt, following last years debut at the premier Macau GP event, include the Macau Government, Hotel Fortuna, Macau-Slot.com, the 4th East Asian Games 2005, CESL-Asia, Sands Macau, Tong Lei, BNU, CTM, ProFabril Asia Consult, Gain Well Group, San Chong Hong, RP Macau and PT Asia.
“To be among the few Macanese drivers making it to the main event, I am extremely thankful to all the support my sponsors have bestowed on me throughout this season. Home track advantage and to perform in front of my fellow-Macanese will serve as an inspiration. Hopefully, I will be able to produce honourable results, which I readily dedicate to all the people of Macau”, concluded the young Macanese driver.

In preparation for the Macau Grand Prix, Avila is scheduled to do multiple tests at Most, Czech Republic on the 5th and 6th of October. A further two test days at Lausitzring, Germany are being finalized considering the tightness of the schedule with the final round of the Asian F3 event in the Philippines on November 6th yet to take place before the world’s best F3 drivers culminate at the 52nd Macau GP by mid-November.
