The Philippines based squad is the brainchild of Irish businessman Noel
Thompson who, in association with Manila team owner Mandy Borja, has created
the new team for aspiring F3 drivers from Ireland and Europe.
Dubliner Lee Farrell, the former karting and Formula Ireland star, is the
team's first driver. Farrell is already a Promomtions Class race winner in Asian F3 this year and is gunning for glory in the Promotions Class of Asia's premier race series in his Dallara TOM'S Toyota.
Speaking about the launch of Aviation Displays Team Ireland team principal
Noel Thompson expressed the hope that the new squad can challenge for wins from
the outset. "This is a great opportunity for young racers and I'm confident that we have the right team structure in place to put the established teams under pressure from the word go," said Thompson.
"The Asian F3 series is not only the fastest growing series in the fastest
growing motorsports market in the world, but it is also an affordable
alternative to the over bloated mega buck European championships.
"This series and this race team are all about unearthing driving talent and
giving it full expression. Star drivers who might be struggling to keep their
careers going because of lack of finance now have another route to the top."
The new team has received words of encouragement from A1 Team Ireland
principal Mark Gallagher who supports the squad's quest to find the best young
Irish drivers. "I want to wish Noel well in his new venture," said Gallagher. "At A1 Team Ireland we are always on the lookout for up and coming Irish drivers who can
make the step up to the A1 Grand Prix series with us and we'll be watching
developments in Noel's team with great interest."
Aviation Displays Team Ireland makes its debut at Batangas, Philippines in
rounds 11 and 12 of the Asian F3 series on November fifth and sixth.
