First female racer signs for AF3 – Mar 03 06

Gaby Dela Merced has signed to contest the Batangas rounds of the Asian Formula Three Series, making her the first female driver in the region’s premier Formula Racing Series.

Dela Merced is in negotiation with several teams and will make an announcement of her choice within a few days. She has previously raced in the Philippine Formula Toyota and touring car championships and completed most of the 2004 season in Formula BMW Asia. “In addition to being a very accomplished race driver, Gabby is also highly promotable and will make a great ambassador for Asian Formula Three” reported an AF3 spokesman.

She hopes to follow in the footsteps of Danica Patrick who has paved the way for female racers in the USA, racing in the IRL Series.
