Sy led the field away with John O’Hara storming through to second from 5th on the grid and was giving Sy a run for his money before he went off, permanently, at turn 5. This handed second place to Dillon Battistini who led a four car train comprised of James Winslow, who had gone off on the first turn and worked his way back to third, Moreno Soeprapto and Dado Pena. They finished in that order, despite lots of ducking and diving. Battistini drove a faultless “defensive” race. Moreno was demoted to 7th place after receiving a time penalty for jumping the start.
Michele Bumgarner stalled at the start allowing JP Tuason to take the Promotions Class lead from Gaby dela Merced. The latter all but caught Tuason on the line, finishing second in class with Bumgarner third despite crashing on the final lap.
The last race of the day, the third round of the series, should be extremely competitive.
